Vestibular Therapy Do you feel dizzy, unsteady, or spinning?
A vestibular disorder involves the inner ear, an important system controlling balance. Problems with sensation in the inner ear can cause unsteadiness, dizziness, and/or nausea. These symptoms are usually worse with movement.
Physical therapy may help!
Physical therapists who have specialized training in the treatment of vestibular disorders can help alleviate these symptoms.
Nate DeBruin, PT of our Lake Elmo office, and Steve Thielbar, PT of our Maplewood office are both specialized in the treatment of conditions related to vestibular problems, and have had impressive patient outcomes.
What will the OSI physical therapist do for a vestibular disorder?
The physical therapist will:
Perform a thorough evaluation involving a brief assessment of mobility, balance and screen for problems.
Develop a plan of care that includes treatment to alleviate or minimize the sensations of spinning.
Develop a personalized exercise program to help retrain the brain and equalize function of inner ear systems.
What results can you expect from physical therapy at OSI?
The average number of visits will range from 2 to 6, depending on the type of inner ear problem. This may take between 1-8 weeks to treat. Some vestibular patients may require further medical intervention.
